Valletta rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Mosta

Valletta came back from two goals down to hold Mosta in a 2-2 draw in a clash between the two teams sharing the eighth place at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

The draw practically suited neither side as they continue to share the eighth place on 25 points, one behind Gudja, two behind Sirens and four behind Hamrun, with the latter two having a game in hand. The result also means that Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans are now sure of playing with the top six.

Following a goalless first half, Mosta took the lead on the 57th minute when off a corner from the left, Tyrone Farrugia flicked the ball home past goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone.

Two minutes later, the Blues doubled the score when Dennis Antwi sent Luis Riascos through and the latter hit low past the Valletta custodian.

Valletta reduced the gap on the 71st minute when they were awarded a penalty after Ivan Curjuric was brought down inside the area; from the penalty spot, Mario Fontanella converted.

The Citizens notched the equaliser on the 90th minute thanks to David Promise Oluwatobi Emmanuel who beat Akpan with a shot from inside the area when served by Andrea Zammit from the left.
