Floriana regain top spot

Floriana regained the top spot in the BOV Premier League table as they defeated Sirens 3-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

A win which ensured they move one point ahead of Hibernians ahead of Saturday’s direct clash at the end of the first phase. Sirens, on the other hand, remain sixth but lying just one point ahead of Gudja United and two ahead of Valletta and Mosta, it will be match day 20 who will determine which team will make it to the top six along with Floriana, HIbernians, Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans and Gzira United. Sirens will be facing Gzira, Gudja cross swords with Mosta and Valletta take on Birkirkara.

Floriana took the lead on the 37th when off an assist by Brandon Paiber, Andrei Ciolacu served Kemar Reid who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.

Seven minutes later, Andrei Ciolacu, served by Jan Busuttil on the right beat the Sirens custodian with an angled shot.

The Greens sealed the issue with a third goal eleven minutes in the second half through Andrei Ciolacu who tapped the ball home from close range after a Brandon Paiber freekick was blocked by the Sirens rear-guard.
