BOV Challenge League: Zebbug Rangers register a fifth successive win

Zebbug Rangers registered a fifth successive win as they beat Mgarr United 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday to regain a three point lead on top of Group B of the BOV Challenge League.

Miguel Perez Jimenez put Zebbug ahead on the 9th and Shalon Diacono doubled the score on the 15th. Stanimir Miloskovic made it 3-0 on the 63rd and four minutes, Perez Jimenez added another.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Lucas Mancuso on the 72nd and Keith Vella on the 80th handed Senglea Athletic a 2-0 win over Luqa St. Andrew’s.

Zebbug lead the way with 36 points, followed by Pieta’ on 36, Marsa 35, Tarxien 34, Fgura 28, St. Andrews 25, Qrendi and Swieqi 21, Senglea 15, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.

Meanwhile in Group A, group winners Pembroke Athleta registered a comfortable 5-1 win over Lija Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Stefan Jankovic put Pembroke ahead on the 33rd and Erikys da Silva Ferreira doubled the score just before the end of the first half. Lydon Micallef pulled one back on the 76th but goals by Weverton Gomes on the 78th, James Brincat on the 84th and Jankovic on the 90th made it 5-1

On the other hand, Naxxar rejoined Zejtun Corinthians in second place as goals by Leejoe Schembri on the 26th and Dimitri Kassekar handed them a 2-0 win over Rabat Ajax. The Magpies will tehrefore play in the National Amateur League next season.

Pembroke lead the way with 41 points, followed by Naxxar and Zejtun on 37, Marsaxlokk 35, Melita 30, San Gwann 26, Lija 24, Mqabba 20, Rabat and Vittoriosa 13 and St. George’s 4.
