BOV National Amateur League: Zurrieq promoted to Challenge League

Zurrieq were the second team to win promotion from the BOV National Amateur League as they finished on top of Group B thanks to a goalless draw with Zabbar St. Patrick at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Marsaskala moved three points clear of neighbours Zabbar thanks to a 3-0 win over Kirkop United at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Radnor Farrugia on the 23rd, Adrian Carabott on the 49th and Fabrizio Zammit on the hour.

On the other hand, a goal by Ryan Sciberras on the 73rd minute handed Mtarfa a narrow win over Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Sirens Stadium.

Zurrieq lead the way with 39 points, followed by Marsaskala on 35, Zabbar 32, Mtarfa 31, Mdina 18, Mellieha 13, Kirkop 11, Qormi 9 and Sta. Venera 8.

Meanwhile in Group A, Xghajra Tornados maintained the challenge for a play-off spot thanks to a 4-1 win over Siggiewi at the Luxol Stadium.

An own goal on the 59th minute put Ghaxaq ahead and three minutes later, Ian Calleja doubled the score. Mauro Busuttil pulled one back eight minutes from time.

On the other hand, Ghaxaq leapfrogged Dingli and Ta’ Xbiex to move joint-third from bottom as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-1.

Josmar Farrugia put Xghajra ahead on the 21st and five minutes later, Aidan Agius Gilford doubled the score. Aaron Hili made it 3-0 on the 58th and although Ryan Muscat pulled one back for Siggiewi on the 69th, Ryden Gatt sealed the issue with a fourth goal one minute from time.

Attard lead the way with 38 points, followed by Gharghur on 31, Birzebbuga 27, Kalkara and Msida 25, Xghajra 24, Ghaxaq and Siggiewi 14, Ta’ Xbiex 13 and Dingli 12.
