Marsaxlokk eliminate Sliema to reach Izibet FA Trophy quarter-finals

Challenge League side Marsaxlokk were the last team to reach the quarter-finals of the Izibet FA Trophy after they defeated Sliema Wanderers 2-1 after extra-time in the last match from the Round of 16 at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.

In the quarter-finals, the Southseasiders, who had defeated Pembroke Athleta 1-0 in the previous round, join seven Premier League clubs, namely Birkirkara, Floriana, Gzira United, Hamrun Spartans, Hibernians, Santa Lucia and Valletta.

Augusto Rene Caseres put Marsaxlokk ahead after just three minutes but Jake Engerer equalised on the 28th. The match went into extra-time with Xuan Cappellino notching the winner on the 95th minute.
