BOV Challenge League: Zejtun move back alone in second place

Zejtun Corinthians moved back alone in second place in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated St. George’s 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday.

Samba Tounkara put Zejtun ahead after just two minutes and two minutes in added time, Renan Sgaria Farias doubled the score.

At the Centenary Stadium, Pembroke Athleta came back from two goals down to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with San Gwann.

Luca Mallia opened the score on the 10th minute and Emmanuel Mbong made it 2-0 two minutes later. However penalties by Jurgen Suda on the 64th and Weverton Gomes eight minutes from time.

Pembroke lead the way with 45 points, followed by Zejtun on 40, Naxxar 37, Marsaxlokk 35, Melita 30, San Gwann 27, Lija 24, Mqabba 20, Rabat and Vittoriosa 12 and St. George’s 4.

In Group B, Swieqi United came from behind to beat Marsa 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium.

Luca Gatt put Marsa ahead on the 19th but Johan Alberto Castano equalised on the half hour and Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva notched the winner seven minutes from time.

Zebbug lead the way on 39 points, followed by Pieta’ on 36, Tarxien 34, Marsa 33, Fgura 28, St. Andrews 25, Swieqi 24, Qrendi 21, Senglea 15, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.
