BOV Challenge League: Marsaxlokk register important win in battle for promotion

Marsaxlokk moved an important step towards promotion to the BOV Premier League as they defeated Naxxar Lions 3-1 in a direct clash from Group A of the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Although they are still third, two points behind second-placed Zejtun Corinthians, a win in their last game against Vittoriosa Stars next week would put them in the runner-up spot.

Neil Micallef put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 7th minute but although Edson Cerqueira Farias equalised on the 45th, goals by Augusto Rene Caseres on the 77th and Xuan Cappellino on the 80th handed the Southseasiders the three points.

Meanwhile in Group B, goals by Santiago Martinez Perlaza on the 14th and Alexander Nilsson on the 71st handed St. Andrews a 2-0 win over Mgarr United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Zebbug lead the way on 42 points, followed by Pieta’ on 36, Tarxien 34, Marsa 33, Fgura and St. Andrews 28, Swieqi 24, Qrendi 21, Senglea 15, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.
