Hibs target win to extend lead

Hibernians will be all out to claim the three points on Monday as they take on Hamrun Spartans in one of the four matches from the BOV Premier League. In another match from the Top Six final round, Birkirkara face Gudja United. On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers face Mosta and Balzan take on Santa Lucia in the Play-Out.

In the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 17:00, Hamrun and Hibernians cross swords in an important clash for the two sides.

The Paolites lead the way with 47 points, two ahead of Floriana with Hamrun lying in fifth place on 35 points, one behind Birkirkara and Gzira.

Hibernians registered an impressive 4-1 win over Floriana in their last outing. They also defeated Zejtun Corinthians 2-1 in the Izibet FA Trophy Round of 16. The Spartans, on the other hand, registered back-to-back wins over Santa Lucia and Sliema Wanderers in their last outing, going on to beat Balzan on penalties in the Izibet FA Trophy.

In the first round, the Paolites registered a narrow win while the second round clash ended in a goalless draw.

In the second match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 20:15, Birkirkara will be hoping to return to winning ways as they take on Gudja.

The Stripes earned just two points from the last three matches following a defeat to Santa Lucia and two draws with Sliema and Valletta. In the Izibet FA Trophy Round of 16, Birkirkara beat Mosta on penalties. Gudja, on the other hand, defeated Mosta in their last league outing after suffering back-to-back defeats to Floriana and Gzira. They lost 1-3 to Gzira in the Izibet FA Trophy.

In the first phase, Birkirkara defeated Gudja 2-0 and 1-0.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 17:00, Sliema Wanderers face Mosta.

Lying at the bottom of the table, Sliema cannot afford any result other than a win in their bid to avoid the drop. They lie on the 12-point mark, ten behind Santa Lucia, eleven behind Balzan and thirteen behind Mosta. The Wanderers earned just two points from the last five matches in draws with Santa Lucia and Birkirkara, losing to Mosta, Valletta and Hamrun. They were also eliminated by Marsaxlokk from the Izibet FA Trophy.

Mosta, on the other hand, lost 0-1 to Gudja in their last league outing after earning seven points from the previous three matches in wins over Sliema and Gzira and a draw to Valletta. They lost 1-3 to Birkirkara in the FA Trophy.

In the previous rounds, Mosta defeated Sliema 3-2 and 1-0.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 20:15, Balzan take on Santa Lucia.

One point separates the two teams and therefore this clash is of utmost importance for both sides. Santa Lucia won three out of the last four matches, defeating Valletta, Birkirkara and Balzan, losing to Hamrun. However they qualified for the quarter-finals of the Izibet FA Trophy after defeating St. Andrews 2-1. Balzan, on the other hand, won just one match out of the last ten league matches and were eliminated from the Izibet FA Trophy after losing to Hamrun on penalties.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw with Santa Lucia winning 1-0 in the second round.
