BOV Challenge League: Pieta’ Hotspurs hold Tarxien in dramatic 2-2 draw

Pieta’ Hotspurs maintained a two-point lead over third-placed Tarxien Rainbows after scoring twice in the dying minutes to hold them in a 2-2 draw in a direct clash from Group B of the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday.

The second team to win promotion from Group B will therefore be determined on Sunday as Pieta’ take on Swieqi United and Tarxien Rainbows face Fgura United.

On Monday, a brace by Wellington de Oliveira on the 34th and 63rd handed Tarxien a two goal lead but Daniel Zerafa reduced the gap on the 90th and Paul Lapira notched the equaliser one minute in added time.

In another match, Fgura United defeated Senglea Athletic 3-2 in an entertaining clash at the Centenary Stadium.

Dylan Caruana put Fgura ahead on the 12th and an own goal on the 35th put them two goals ahead but two minutes in the second half, Lucas Mancuso Lemons Santos Ferreira reduced the gap and Matheus de Lucena Guariento equalised five minutes later. Rafael Conrado Prudente notched the winner on the 65th.

Zebbug lead the way on 42 points, followed by Pieta’ on 37, Tarxien 35, Marsa 33, Fgura 31 St. Andrews 28, Swieqi 24, Qrendi 21, Senglea 15, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.

Meanwhile in Group A, Vittoriosa Stars defeated Rabat Ajax 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium.

Melvin Akingboye put the Magpies ahead on the 22nd but a Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde penalty levelled matters and an Ali Oularbi penalty on the 61st handed Vittoriosa the lead. Freud Gnindokponou made it 3-1 on the 70th but Adam Smeir reduced the gap four minutes later.

Pembroke lead the way with 45 points, followed by Zejtun on 40, Marsaxlokk 38, Naxxar 37, Melita 30, Lija and San Gwann 27, Mqabba 20, Vittoriosa 15, Rabat 12 and St. George’s 4.
