Santa Lucia hit three past Balzan

Santa Lucia registered a second win over Balzan in less than a month as they defeated them 3-0 in a match from the BOV Premier League Play-Out final round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.

Giovanni Tedesco’s side therefore leapfrogs Balzan to join Mosta in third place in the Play-Out table, leaving Balzan second from bottom. For Paul Zammit’s side, this third consecutive defeat leaves them two points behind Santa Lucia and Mosta and eight points ahead of Sliema.

Santa Lucia took the lead on the half hour when off a corner by Zerafa from the left, goalkeeper Vukasin Vranes blocked Vito Plut’s effort but Andre Fausto Rodrigues Prates placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.

Three minutes in the second half, Gianmarco Conti’s powerful drive, deflected by a defender past goalkeeper Vranes put Santa Lucia two goals ahead.

Santa Lucia sealed the issue with a third goal fourteen minutes from time courtesy of Vito Plut who exchanged the ball with Victor Luis Prestes Filho before advancing on the left flank and into the area, before hitting past goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.
