Birkirkara, Floriana fire blanks

Floriana, once again, failed to claim the three points as they were held in a goalless draw by Birkirkara in a match from the BOV Premier League Top Six final round at the National Stadium on Saturday.

The Greens have, therefore, gone four matches without a win after the defeats to Hibernians and Gzira and the draw with the Paolites in their last league outing. Lying one point behind Hibernians, the gap would widen to four points should Stefano Sanderra’s side beat Gudja United on Sunday.

Birkirkara, on the other hand, stay six points behind Floriana, three ahead of Hamrun Spartans who face Gzira United in the other match on Sunday.

The first half was quite entertaining but the second disappointed with few attempts at goal. Early in the game, Jan Busuttil had a good attempt saved by Amara Sylla. Birkirkara replied with a Ryan Scicluna cross shot which was parried by Kitanov. Andrei Ciolacu missed an excellent opportunity, failing to connect off a cross by Zachary Cassar and after Kitanov performed a save on a Federico Falcone header, Busuttil had a conclusion saved in two attempts by Sylla.

Late in the game, Georgi Kitanov performed a good save on a Kilian Bevis effort while substitute Ryan Camenzuli tried to break the deadlock with a cross shot which ended just over the bar.
