Sirens retain Premier League status after comfortable win over Sliema

Sirens will be playing once again in the BOV Premier League after defeating Sliema Wanderers 5-0 in a match from the BOV Premier League Play-Out final round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

In fact, with two matches to go, the St. Paul’s Bay side now lies seven points ahead of Balzan who are second from bottom.

For the Wanderers, who were relegated to the Challenge league earlier two weeks ago, this was the sixteenth defeat this season.

Sirens took the lead on the 7th minute with Bogdan Gavrila slotting the ball past Aquilina following an assist from the right.

Seven minutes later, Sirens doubled the score courtesy of Conor Borg who tapped the ball home after the Sliema goalkeeper had partially saved a shot from outside the area.

Ten minutes in the second half, Alfred Effiong made it 3-0 as he received a through pass and entered the area before hitting home.

Renato Cardoso Porto Neto added another two minutes later as he hit home after a cross from the right was partially saved by the goalkeeper.

Bogdan Gavrila scored a fifth goal on the 59th after he intercepted a back pass and hit low past Aquilina following a series of dribbles.
