Oliver Spiteri returns with Balzan as coach

Balzan have appointed Oliver Spiteri as their new coach. He replaces Alejandro Pantoja who took over in the final part of the season from Paul Zammit who had replaced Mark Miller earlier on.

This will be Spiteri’s second spell at the club after serving as coach for three years between 2014/15 and 2016/17.

Oliver Spiteri had started his coaching career with the youth team of Birkirkara and then coached Qormi, Marsaxlokk, the Malta Under-17 side, Mosta and Vittoriosa Stars before joining Balzan. Later he coached Naxxar Lions and then joined Santa Lucia’s technical staff mid-way through season 2018/19 and following promotion to the Premier League, he was promoted to coach. He left Santa Lucia last January and then served as technical director at Sliema Wanderers.

Spiteri will be assisted by Jean Paul Desira who started the season as coach of San Gwann but then served as team manager of Mgarr United. He has already worked for Balzan as assistant coach with Oliver Spiteri.
