Alfred Effiong moves to Marsaxlokk

Newly-promoted Marsaxlokk continued to strengthen their squad with the signing of former Malta international striker Alfred Effiong.

For the thirty-seven year old striker, this will be his second spell with the Southseasides as he played for the club in season 2010/11.

Alfred Effiong played for Shooting Stars in Nigeria and then for Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia before moving to Malta to join Kercem Ajax in Gozo in 2004. He moved to St. George’s the following season and then in 2006, he joined Hamrun Spartans. In 2008, he moved to Qormi where he spent two years before joining Marsaxlokk. He spent one year with the club before moving to Valletta. In summer 2012, he signed for Gzira United but in the January 2013 transfer window, he re-joined Qormi. In summer 2015, Effiong moved to Balzan where he spent six years before joining Sirens last summer.

The Southseasiders had earlier signed Tiago Adan Fonseca, Edafe Christopher Uzeh, Timothy Tabone Desira, Leandro Aguirre, Conor Borg, Dale Mifsud and Ryan Tonna.
