The BOV Challenge League 2022/23 will kick-off on Friday as Lija Athletic and Tarxien Rainbows cross swords at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 21:00.
The league will be played over two phases as eighteen teams are taking part this season. The eighteen teams will be playing on a one round league basis in the first phase. In the second phase, the top six teams will be playing on two rounds while the other twelve will be playing on one round.
At the end of the second phase,
(a) the clubs placed first and second in the Top Six shall be promoted to the Premier League with the team placing first being declared the Champion of the Challenge League;
(b) the club placed third in the Top Six shall participate in the Premier League Play-Out;
(c) the bottom six teams in the relegation pool shall be relegated to the National Amateur League.
Clubs will therefore be all out to secure a place with the top six at the end of the first phase as the relegation pool which will see six teams out of twelve relegated to the National Amateur League will definitely be risky.
Among the teams challenging for promotion, there should be Naxxar Lions and Zejtun Corinthians who missed out on promotion from Group A last season along with Sliema Wanderers who will be hoping to make a quick return to the Premier League.
