Malta to play Israel in a friendly match

Malta will be hosting Israel in a friendly match on the 27th September.  The match will be played at the National Stadium, and kicks-off at 21:00.

Israel, who are currently ranked 76th, are still unbeaten in the UEFA Nations League and are currently enjoying top spot in League B Group 2.  They played three games, where they won against Albania and drew against Iceland both on home soil and away.  They are currently coached by ex Israel international player Alon Hazan.

This will be the 9th encounter between these two countries.  Israel won 6 times, while the game ended in a draw twice.  Israel and Malta met for the first time in a friendly match in 1984 in Jerusalem when Israel won 2-1.  Malta’s goal was scored by Charles Muscat.  The last time the two countries met was on the 11th of October 2011 at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali when Israel won 2-0.

Before this game, Malta plays its last game from the UEFA Nations League League D Group 2 away against Estonia at the Le Coq Arena in Talinn on Friday 23.  Currently Malta and Estonia are at par with 6 points each, however Estonia have played a game less.  Malta need a win to keep alive hopes of qualifying to League C of the UEFA Nations League.
