Sliema Wanderers had a winning start in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Naxxar Lions 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Naxxar had goalkeeper Yenz Cini sent off early in the game and Lydon Micallef put the Wanderers ahead on the 21st minute. Edson Cerqueira Farias equalised on the 35th but four minutes in the second half, Mohamed Abdulahi Awad notched the winner for Sliema.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Melita defeated newly-promoted Marsaskala 2-1. Antoine Attard put the Amateurs ahead on the half hour and although Adrian Carabott equalised eight minutes in the second half, Attard scored again on the 75th to hand Melita the three points.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Marsa were held in a 1-1 draw by Vittoriosa Stars. Lucas Ribeiro de Oliveira put Marsa ahead on the 21st but Jeremy Delmar equalised two minutes in the second half.
