Stripes leave it for the second half to register fourth win

Birkirkara registered their fourth win in as many matches as they scored four in the second half to beat Santa Lucia 4-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

For Santa Lucia, on the other hand, this was their fourth defeat which leaves them anchored at the bottom of the table without any points, together with Pieta’ Hotspurs.

Santa Lucia had two changes from the team which lost to Zebbug as Japanese goalkeeper Makoto Kikushima and Michael Johnson replaced Dylan Ciappara and Thomas Rier. Birkirkara, on the other hand, had Osvaldo Iorio and Paul Mbong replacing Kurt Zammit and Neil Micallef.

Following a goalless first half, Birkirkara took the lead on the 55th minute when off a cross from the right by Kevin Tulimieri, Yannick Yankam beat Kikushima with a first-time effort.

On the 68th minute, the Stripes doubled the score when off a cross by Alex da Paixao, Enzo Daniel Cabrera addressed the ball towards goal with Michael Johnson being unlucky to deflect the ball into his own net for an own goal.

Three minutes later, Alex da Paixao served Enzo Daniel Cabrera on the right and the latter hit home past the Santa Lucia goalkeeper.

One minute in added time, Birkirkara scored their fourth thanks to the young Mathias Conti, who was making his first appearance for the Stripes, heading home off a cross by Paul Mbong from the right.
