BOV Challenge League: Sliema move four points clear

Sliema Wanderers registered their fifth win in as many matches in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Mqabba 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves put the Wanderers ahead on the 9th and although Ronald Makalysten Melo Costa equalised seven minutes in the second half, Mark Scerri notched the winner two minutes later.

Fgura United were held in a second successive draw, this time 1-1 with Swieqi United at the Centenary Stadium.

Johan Alberto Castano put Swieqi ahead on the 36th but eleven minutes in the second half, Fgura equalised through Jake Stensen.

Naxxar Lions returned to winning ways as they beat Qrendi 2-0 in another match at the Centenary Stadium.

Erikys Ferreira put Naxxar ahead on the 14th and Robinson Blandon Rendon doubled the score on the 34th.

Melita joined Naxxar in third place as they registered a most comfortable 6-2 win over neighbours St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

A brace by Hiroya Konno on the 17th and 45th and another by Christopher Baker on the 33rd and 38th together with an own goal just before half-time gave Melita a most comfortable five-goal lead by the end of the first half. St. Andrews scored twice through Alan Borg Olivier on the 59th and Andrew Apap Bologna on the 82nd but Hiroya Konno added another seven minutes from time.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann beat Vittoriosa Stars 3-1.

Matheus de Luxena Guariento scored twice on the 7th and the 18th to hand San Gwann a two-goal lead and although Miguel Ciantar pulled one back on the 41st, the same player made it 3-1 for San Gwann.

Sliema lead the way with 15 points, followed by Fgura on 11, Naxxar and Melita 10, Zejtun 9, Swieqi 8, Vittoriosa and San Gwann 7, Lija, Mtarfa, Tarxien, Zurrieq and St. Andrews 5, Marsa 4, Attard and Mqabba 3, Qrendi 1 and Marsaskala 0.
