Late penalty hands Santa Lucia first draw

Santa Lucia earned their first point in the BOV Premier League as they held Marsaxlokk in a 2-2 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

Marsaxlokk were disappointed to see a possible second consecutive win fade away in the dying minutes but now join Valletta in ninth place on five points.

Pablo Doffo named an unchanged side for Marsaxlokk but Santa Lucia had three changes as Matthew Calleja Cremona was back in goal, replacing Dylan Ciappara while Emerson Camilleri deputised for the suspended Miguel Angel Alba.

Santa Lucia took the lead on the 14th thanks to Meghon Valpoort who hit home after receiving an assist from the left.

Marsaxlokk equalised on the 29th when Daniel Agius delivered a cross from the right and Lorenzo Soares Fonseca, in an attempt to anticipate Tiago Adan Fonseca, slotted the ball past Calleja Cremona for an own goal.

The Southseasiders went 2-1 ahead six minutes from the end of the first half courtesy of Walter Omar Serrano whose fine header beat Calleja Cremona following a corner by Aguirre from the left.

However, on the 90th, Santa Lucia levelled matters thanks to a penalty by Francisco Rodrigues Farias after he was adjudged to have been fouled inside the area by Serrano.
