National Amateur Cup: St. George’s hit nine past Munxar

Four teams secured a place in the quarter-finals of the National Amateur Cup after winning their respective ties from the Round of 16 on Saturday.

St. George’s registered a most comfortable 9-2 win over Gozitan side Munxar Falcons at the Luxol Stadium.

Morientes Muscat put the Saints ahead on the 7th minute and Mario Andres Arrieta doubled the score two minutes later. An own goal reduced the gap for Munxar on the half hour but Paul Simon Ellul made it 3-1 three minutes from the end of the first half. In the second half, St. George’s increased the lead to 6-1 thanks to Kurt Magro on the 47th, Mauro Busuttil on the hour and Matthew Schembri on the 62nd. Brandon Said scored a second goal for Munxar on the 70th but St. George’s extended the lead once again with goals by Paul Simon Ellul on the 77th, Morientes Muscat on the 81st and Rudy Cassar Jeffries on the 86th.

At the Sirens Stadium, Siggiewi defeated Gozitan side Zebbug Rovers 2-1 courtesy of a brace by Tyrone Grech on the 2nd and the 84th. Lorenzo Atzori had equalised on the half hour.

Qormi defeated another Gozitan side, Xaghra United, 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Sheldon Seychell on the 5th and Abner dos Santos Pinto on the 75th.

In another match, Kalkara United needed extra-time to eliminate Xghajra Tornados with a 3-1 score at the Luxol Stadium.

Following a goalless ninety minutes, the match went into extra-time with Julian Zammit putting Kalkara ahead on the 95th and Redheil Stivala equalising two minutes later. However on the 120th, Luke Farrugia made it 2-1 for Kalkara and Dhonathan Santos da Hora sealed the issue with a goal two minutes in added time.
