Futsal: Ta’ Xbiex prove to be a hard nut to crack for Luxol 

Luxol St. Andrews did not find the going easy against Ta’ Xbiex as they won 3-2 in a highly contested match from the Enemed Futsal League. 

On their part, Ta’ Xbiex produced one of their best performances and were unlucky not to get at least a point from this encounter.  

Mark Zammit, Andre Ciancio and an own goal contributed for Luxol with Ta’ Xbiex having Karl Sciortino and Zvezdan Vukovic on target. 

This week Luxol will be hosting European champions Barcelona, Dobovec of Slovenia and Hovocubo of the Netherlands in Group 3 of the main round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League. The tournament will be played between Wednesday 26 and Saturday 29 at the University Sports Hall.

Luxol face Dobovec on Wednesday, Hovocubo on Thursday and Barcelona on Saturday. All matches kick-off at 19:00.

Meanwhile Swieqi United obtained a hard-earned 7-3 win against Marsaskala.  Despite the score, the Southseasiders gave their all against their most quoted opponents.  

Fabrizio Zammit and Michael Borg netted a brace each while Brandon Debono, Justin Theuma and Brayan Steven scored the other goals for Swieqi.  Marsaskala had Craig Pickard notching a brace with Dylan Caruana scoring the other goal.  

In a very interesting encounter, Żurrieq Futsal beat Malta U-19 8-4.  The Żurrieq side established a 6-1 advantage but the Malta youths made a great comeback and scored three goals to reduce the gap to just two goals but in the end the experience of their opponents prevailed as they scored two more goals.  

Javier Montes Burgos and Boycho Marev netted a brace with Armando Gjepali and Kurt Darmanin also putting their names on the score sheet.  Shiraz Attard scored twice for Malta U19 with Ivin Gatt and Deyan Pace scoring the other two goals.  

On the other hand, St George’s defeated Fgura United 8-3.  Karl Luke Schembri maintained his scoring spree as he scored a poker while Faisal Alnakou scored a brace. Sean Parnis and Jose Luis Carlos Lopes also put their names on the score sheet.  Fgura had Sebastian Nayar, Jacques Vella Critien and Matthew Buttigieg on the mark.
