National Amateur League: Narrow wins for Birzebbuga, Kalkara

Senglea moved back on top of Group A of the National Amateur League as they defeated Xghajra Tornados 3-0 at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Christian Degabriele put Senglea ahead after just three minutes and Steve Meilak doubled the score on the 27th. Aidan Paul Azzopardi sealed the issue with a third goal seven minutes in the second half.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Mellieha 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Andrely Kouessabio Makela put the Saints ahead on the 10th minute and although Wayne Chetcuti equalised on the 85th, Leon Camilleri notched the winner on the 90th.

Kalkara United, on the other hand, beat Qormi 2-1 in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Fabrizio Zammit put Kalkara ahead on the 10th minute and Jean Paul Formosa doubled the score five minutes in the second half. Gianluca Borg pulled one back for Qormi on the 75th.

Senglea lead the way with 19 points, followed by Zabbar on 18, Mgarr, Birzebbuga and Kalkara 13, Qormi 9, Sta. Venera 6, Xghajra 5, Mellieha and Pembroke 3 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.

Meanwhile in Group B, an own goal on the 29th minute enabled Kirkop United to register their first win as they defeated Ghaxaq 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium to move third from bottom.

Msida lead the way with 11 points, followed by Rabat on 10, St. George’s 9, Gharghur 8, Ghaxaq and Siggiewi 7, Luqa and Kirkop 5, Dingli and Mdina 4.
