BOV Challenge League: Sliema Wanderers drop first points

Leaders Sliema Wanderers dropped their first points in the BOV Challenge League as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Swieqi United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Thursday.

Mark Scerri put Sliema ahead on the 9th minute but Johan Alberto Castano equalised on the 33rd and seven minutes in the second half, Gilberto Martins Leite Carrara handed Swieqi the lead. Edmond Agius scored six minutes in added time to restore equilibrium.

Marsa returned to winning ways as they defeated Lija Athletic 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Iida Teppei on the 37th and Valdo Goncalves Alhinho on the 54th.

On the other hand, Zurrieq defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio put Zurrieq ahead on the 49th and although Miguel Ciantar equalised on the 72nd, Bydasser Sammut notched the winner ten minutes from time.

Sliema lead the way with 25 points, followed by Zejtun on 21, Naxxar 19, Fgura, Melita and Tarxien 17, Lija and Zurrieq 14, Swieqi 12, Marsa and St. Andrews 11, Attard 9, Mtarfa and San Gwann 8, Mqabba and Vittoriosa 7, Marsaskala 6 and Qrendi 5.
