National Amateur League: Zabbar, St. George’s move top

Zabbar St. Patrick and St. George’s moved top in the respective groups in the National Amateur League following Sunday’s matches.

In Group A, Zabbar defeated Mellieha 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Andre Joe Cutajar scored twice on the 38th and 55th to put Zabbar two goals ahead. Kenneth Aquilina extended the lead on the 64th with Srdan Vujic scoring a consolation goal ten minutes from time.

Mgarr United found no difficulty in defeating Ta’ Xbiex 6-0 at the Luxol Stadium thanks to a hat-trick by Christian Saint Ebisindor on the 1st, 12th and 35th, Ryan Dalli on the 16th, Clayton Borg on the 50th and Joseph Paul Zammit on the 75th.

In another match, Sta. Venera Lightnings defeated Pembroke Athleta 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Ryan Bezzina put the Lightnings ahead on the 21st and although Xylon Marmara equalised six minutes from the end of the first half, Jeremy Grixti made it 2-1 on the 66th.

Zabbar lead the way with 21 points, followed by Senglea on 19, Mgarr 16, Birzebbuga and Kalkara 13, Qormi and Sta. Venera 9, Xghajra 5, Mellieha and Pembroke 3 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.

Meanwhile in Group B, St. George’s beat Dingli Swallows 3-0 at the Luxol Stadium to take sole leadership. Irvin Abela put the Saints ahead on the 6th and Morientes Muscat doubled the score on the 8th. Jake Bowman sealed the issue with a third goal on the 72nd.

St. George’s lead the way with 15 points, followed by Msida and Gharghur on 14, Rabat 13, Luqa 11, Kirkop 8, Siggiewi and Ghaxaq 7, Dingli and Mdina 4.
