Zebbug-Hamrun abandoned at half-time with Rangers leading 2-1

Zebbug Rangers were leading 2-1 at half-time in the clash with leaders Hamrun Spartans but the match was abandoned at half-time as the heavy rainfall which hit the Maltese islands on Saturday afternoon left the pitch of the Centenary Stadium water-logged leaving referee Ezekiel Barbara no other option but to abandon the game.

The game will be resumed at a date which is yet to be announced.

Zebbug had a perfect start, taking the lead on the 3rd minute when off a cross by Stefan Jankovic, Shaun Bugeja headed the ball home past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

The Rangers doubled the score seven minutes later thanks to a direct freekick by Stefan Jankovic from the left.

Hamrun pulled one back on the 14th minute courtesy of Jonny who headed the ball home from close range following a cross from the left corner by Elvis Mashike.

Following the end of the first half, the referee waited for forty five minutes before inspecting the pitch with the two captains but with the ball getting stuck due to the water on the pitch, he abandoned the game.
