National Amateur Cup: Kalkara, Birzebbuga reach semi-finals

Kalkara United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s made it to the semi-finals of the National Amateur Cup after defeating St. George’s and Kirkop United respectively in the two semi-finals in programme on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Birzebbuga defeated Kirkop 3-1. Jean Claude Cassar put the Saints ahead on the 6th and Keith Muscat doubled the score eight minutes later. Andrely Kouessabio Makela extended the lead on the 72nd with Matthew Borg scoring a consolation goal three minutes in added time.

On the other hand, at the Luxol Stadium, Kalkara defeated St. George’s 2-1. Fabrizio Zammit put Kalkara ahead on the 15th and Daniel Claridge equalised on the 73rd. However four minutes in added time, Cedric Zahra notched the winner for Kalkara.

Apart from proceeding to the semi-finals of the competition, the winners also enter the Izibet FA Trophy preliminary round where Kalkara United will be facing Tarxien Rainbows and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s will be meeting Attard.
