BOV Challenge League: Naxxar move top

Naxxar Lions joined Sliema Wanderers on top the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Attard 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday. Sliema, however, have a game in hand.

Robinson Blandon Rendon put the Lions ahead on the 23rd and Ayrton Senna Azzopardi doubled the score eight minutes later. Edson Cerqueira Farias extended the lead on the 83rd but four minutes in added time, Hamed Oluwatosin Abdulhameed pulled one back for Attard.

Melita were held in a 1-1 draw by San Gwann at the Centenary Stadium. Following a goalless first half, Nezar Fawzi Abouhaisa put san Gwann ahead eight minutes in the second half and Matthew Debattista equalised five minutes later.

Lija Athletic scored deep in stoppage time to defeat Mqabba 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Erjon Beu put Lija ahead after just five minutes but Lucas Matheus dos Santos levelled matters on the 38th. McAllister Clinch notched the winner four minutes in added time.

St. Andrews joined Fgura United in sixth place, along with Lija Athletic, as they beat Kevin Vella’s side 3-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Alan Borg Olivier put the Saints ahead on the 17th but Aroldo da Silva Arruda equalised just before half-time. St. Andrews regained the lead through Asante Agyemang on the 62nd and Luka Mijic made it 3-1 seven minutes later. Aroldinho scored a second goal for Fgura two minutes in added time.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Mtarfa thanks to a brace by Miguel Ciantar on the 7th and 23rd and Luca Gatt on the 30th.

Naxxar and Sliema lead the way with 29 points, followed by Zejtun on 27, Melita and Tarxien 21, Fgura, Lija and St. Andrews 18, Zurrieq 17, Marsa 14, Swieqi and Attard 13, San Gwann 12, Marsaskala and Vittoriosa 10, Mtarfa 8, Qrendi, and Mqabba 7.
