Maxuell Samurai penalties put Gzira back on track

Two penalties converted by Maxuell Maia handed Gzira United the three points as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

The Maroons re-join Birkirkara in second place, one point ahead of Hibernians, who however have a game in hand.

Gzira took the lead on the 28th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Maxuell Maia was brought down inside the area by Shaun Bugeja and from the penalty spot, the Brazilian forward made no mistake.

Three minutes from time, the Maroons sealed the issue when they were awarded another penalty after Brooklyn Borg was floored inside the area and Maxuell Maia converted from the penalty spot.
