Ten-man Balzan return to winning ways

Despite being reduced to ten men, Balzan returned to winning ways as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 3-2 at the National Stadium on Friday.

This win puts Balzan on level points with Gudja on the 20-point mark but the latter have a game in hand. Zebbug, on the other hand, remain third from bottom.

Balzan took the lead on the 25th minute when off a cross from the left, Matheus Sousa headed the ball home past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.

Zebbug levelled matters on the 36th thanks to Charles Lokoli Ngoy who headed the ball home off a cross by Randall Vella from the right.

One minute in the second half, Balzan regained the lead thanks to Angel Torres who concluded a good run on the right flank with a low shot which beat Azzopardi.

After hitting the crossbar through Marcus Grima, Balzan had Ivan Bojovic sent off on the 64th for a foul on Macedo.

The Rangers restored equilibrium on the 67th courtesy of Roberto Enrique Sanchez direct from a corner as goalkeeper Rudy Briffa failed to hold the ball pushing it into the net.

However, one minute in added time, Paul Fenech sent Angel Torres through and the latter rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball at the back of the net.
