BOV Challenge League: Another defeat for Zejtun

Zejtun Corinthians suffered the third defeat in four matches in the BOV Challenge League as they lost 0-1 to bottom-placed Mtarfa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Thursday.

A goal by Justin Zammit seven minutes from time handed Mtarfa the three points.

Tarxien Rainbows defeated San Gwann 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Darren Falzon scored twice on the 7th and 16th with Daneel Abela extending the lead on the 18th. Nezar Fawzi Abouhaisa pulled one back on the 26th but Carlos Conceicao Filho sealed the issue on the 38th.

Mqabba and Marsaskala shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Following a goalless first half, Allan da Silva Oliveira put Marsaskala ahead five minutes in the second half and nine minutes later, Rundell Renold Winchester doubled the score. Denilson Borg reduced the gap for Mqabba on the 65th and goals by Lucas Matheus dos Santos on the 69th and the 80th turned the score in Mqabba’s favour. Tyron Hili notched the equaliser for Marsaskala one minute from time.

With one match-day to go for the end of the first phase, five teams have already secured their promotion pool status. Sliema, Naxxar, Zejtun, Tarxien and Zurrieq have already secured their status with Melita, Fgura United and St. Andrews battling for the remaining spot.

Sliema and Naxxar lead the way with 41 points, followed by Zejtun on 33, Tarxien 31, Zurrieq 26, Melita 25, Fgura and St. Andrews 22, Swieqi 21, Lija and Marsa 20, Attard 17, Marsaskala and Mqabba and San Gwann 15, Mtarfa 11, Qrendi and Vittoriosa 10.
