Izibet Amateur League: Luqa, Gharghur close in on top two

Luqa St. Andrew’s and Gharghur closed in on Msida St. Joseph and leaders Rabat Ajax in Group B of the Izibet Amateur League as they both registered wins on Saturday.

Gharghur came from behind to beat Kirkop United 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Isaac Abela put Kirkop ahead on the 26th, Jayden Aquilina equalised eight minutes from time and three minutes in added time, Erik Pietribiasi notched the winner.

Sam Lorn Kind notched a hat-trick and Mario Jude Dominicus a brace as Luqa defeated Mdina Knights 5-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Sam Kind put Luqa ahead on the 8th and doubled the score on the 19th. Mario Dominicus scored twice on the 25th and 73rd with Kind adding another four minutes from time.

In another match, an own goal on the 41st handed Ghaxaq a narrow win over Siggiewi at the Sirens Stadium.

Rabat lead the way with 23 points, followed by Msida on 22, Luqa and Gharghur 21, St. George’s and Kirkop 17, Ghaxaq 14, Siggiewi 8, Dingli 5 and Mdina 4

Meanwhile in a match from Group A, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Xghajra Tornados 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Andrely Kouessabio put the Saints ahead one minute in the second half and although Manuel Farrugia equalised on the 53rd, Christian Desira notched the winner ten minutes from time.
