BOV Challenge League: Sliema, Naxxar inch closer to promotion

Lydon Micallef scored twice as Sliema Wanderers defeated Melita 2-0 in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Micallef opened the score four minutes from the end of the first half and went on to double the score on the 64th.

On the other hand, a Robinson Blandon Rendon notched a hat-trick as Naxxar Lions defeated Zurrieq 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium. The Colombian forward opened the score on the 38th and added another two goals on the 62nd and 72nd.

Sliema lead the way with 56 points, followed by Naxxar on 48, Zejtun 37, Tarxien 33, Melita 30 and Zurrieq 29.

In the Play-Out, a goal by Jamie Sixsmith two minutes in the second half handed St. Andrews a narrow win over Mqabba at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Fgura United came from behind to beat Marsa 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Teppei Iida put Marsa ahead after just two minutes but Jurgen Debono equalised on the 62nd. Three minutes later, Wellington Valentim de Sousa made it 2-1 and Cristian Andres Molina Escobar added another on the 70th.

On the other hand, a goal by Henrique Maciel de Souza on the 57th handed Qrendi a narrow win over San Gwann at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In the Play-Out, Swieqi and St. Andrews lead the way with 31 points, followed by Fgura 30, Marsa 27, Lija 26, Attard 23, Mqabba 21, Qrendi 20, San Gwann 19, Marsaskala 16, Mtarfa 14 and Vittoriosa 13.
