Mosta file protest following draw with Valletta

Mosta have filed a protest against the result of the BOV Premier League match against Valletta at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday which ended in a goalless draw.

The Blues argue that Nilton Soares Rodrigues was ineligible as he had already played for two clubs this season before joining Valletta.

Niltinho was on the books of Brazilian Serie B side Nautico making a final appearance for the club on July 17 in the game against Chapecoense. In August, he moved to Greek Super League 2 side Panachaiki, making one appearance in the Greek Cup against Panserraikos in October and two appearances in the league games against Episkopi and Kalamata in November.

He joined Valletta in January, making his debut in the BOV Premier League match against Pieta’ Hotspurs

  1. “However, a player may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season if he has moved between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (ie, start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring). This is only allowed if he has fully complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs.”

I think this will be the case here, given that the Brazilian season is played over the Calendar year, but we’ll see what happens.
