Ayrton Attard brace paves the way for fine Marsaxlokk win over Hibernians

Marsaxlokk moved a step closer to securing their Premier League status thanks to a fine 3-1 win over Hibernians at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts them temporarily ten points and thirteen points ahead of Zebbug Rangers and Santa Lucia who both have a game in hand.

For the Paolites, who had already been eliminated by the Southseasiders from the quarter-finals of the Izibet FA Trophy, this was another setback in the battle for a place in European football this summer as they are currently fifth.

Ayrton Attard, who is on loan from Hibernians, put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 19th minute when he received an assist from the left before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Marko Jovicic.

On the 37th minute, Ayrton Attard with a carbon-copy of the first goal when he received another assist from the left and slotted the ball past Jovicic.

Five minutes from time, Santiago Moracci extended the lead when he took advantage of a Hibernians throw in and rounded a defender before slotting the ball past the Hibs goalkeeper.

Two minutes in added time, Yunusa Muritala scored a consolation goal for the Paolites with a diagonal shot from the left.
