BOV Challenge League: Tarxien maintain challenge for play-off spot

Tarxien Rainbows maintained hopes of securing the play-off spot as they defeated Melita 3-0 in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top Six at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Darren Falzon put Tarxien ahead on the 6th and Jairo Santos de Oliveira Filho scored twice on the 30th and 73rd.

Sliema lead the way with 62 points, followed by Naxxar on 51, Zejtun 41, Tarxien 39, Melita 31 and Zurrieq 29.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Marsa claimed three precious points as they defeated Mqabba 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Luca Brincat put Marsa ahead on the 64th and although Boubacar Kanta converted a penalty to equalise for Mqabba on the 79th, Jamie Magri Overend notched the winner five minutes in added time.

At the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Desire Koiba on the 35th handed Vittoriosa Stars a narrow win over Fgura United.

In another match, San Gwann and Marsaskala shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Gianluca Zammit for San Gwann on the 17th and Adrian Carabott on the 29th for Marsaskala.

Swieqi lead the way with 37 points, followed by Fgura and St. Andrews on 35, Lija 32, Marsa 31, Attard 26, San Gwann 25, Marsaskala and Qrendi 24, Mqabba 21, Vittoriosa 20 and Mtarfa 17.
