Marcelo Santos brace paves the way for Marsaxlokk win

Marcelo Santos scored twice for Marsaxlokk as they defeated Mosta 3-1 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Marsaxlokk had Christoffer Mafoumbi, Oual El Hasni, Enrico Pepe, Jospeh Minala, Marcelo Santos and Ayom Majok making their debut while Mosta paraded new signings Joao Victor, Quelmer Hurtado and Caio Sena with Zachary Brincat making his return after his spell on loan with Tarxien last season.

The Southseasiders managed to take the lead on 16 minutes when off a through ball by Oualid El Hasni for Marcelo Santos on the right, the latter anticipated goalkeeper Anse Ngouni Demba, hitting low inside the empty net.

Mosta equalised eleven minutes later when off a Giancarlo Goncalves corner from the right, Zachary Brincat headed home from close range.

Marsaxlokk regained the lead two minutes in the second half when off a cross by Juan Corbalan from the right, Marcelo Santos headed home in style past the Mosta goalkeeper.

The Southseasiders scored the third goal on 53 minutes when Ulises Arias sent Ayom Majok through on the right and off the latter’s assist, Dodo hit home.

Four minutes in added time, Mosta were reduced to ten men after Giancarlo Goncalves was sent off for the dangerous tackle on Juan Corbalan.
