Santa Lucia hit seven past Mtarfa as BOV Challenge League kicks-off

The BOV Challenge League kicked-off on Saturday with the first four matches.

Santa Lucia registered a most comfortable 7-0 win over Mtarfa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jean Carlos converted a penalty on 5 minutes and six minutes later, Alessio Azzopardi doubled the score. Jean Carlos made it 3-0 on 14 minutes and Aidan Friggieri increased the lead on 38 minutes with Jean Carlos adding another one minute from the end of the first half. In the second half, Santa Lucia added another two goals thanks to Masaaki Takahara on 72 minutes and FIlip Petkovski on 91 minutes.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, newly-promoted Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-2. Arthur Stelmach put the Hotspurs ahead on 37 minutes but Alex Bruno equalised on 48 minutes and one minute later, Paul Lapira made it 2-1 for Birzebbuga. Leo Agius extended the lead on 70 minutes with Owen Magro reducing the gap on 93 minutes.

At the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United came from behind to beat Melita 2-1. Eric Mensah put Melita ahead on 10 minutes but Salam Kojo Mawuena equalised on 42 minutes and one minute in the second half, Isaac Davey notched the winner. 

Zurrieq also turned defeat into victory in the clash with Marsa, winning 3-1. Gabriel Cruz put Marsa ahead on 11 minutes but Jonathan Monney equalised on 73 minutes and ten minutes later, Jamie Zerafa put Zurrieq ahead. Monney sealed the issue with another goal one minute from time.
