Sliema Wanderers return to winning ways

Sliema Wanderers returned to winning ways as they defeated Gzira United 2-0 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday.

The Wanderers, who were coming from two draws with Birkirkara and Valletta, move three points behind leaders Hibernians and one behind second-placed Hamrun Spartans but Floriana and Valletta have a game in hand.

Gzira, on the other hand, suffered the third defeat in six matches as they continue to chase their first win, remaining second from bottom.

Roko Pisa put the Wanderers ahead on 17 minutes when he headed the ball home off a cross by Thiaguinho.

Sliema doubled the score on 75 minutes thanks to substitute Fernandinho who beat goalkeeper Edoardo Colombo when served by Diarra.
