Gharghur, Qormi, Senglea Athletic and Ta’ Xbiex joined Attard, Dingli Swallows, Kirkop United, Lija Athletic, Luqa St. Andrew’s, Mqabba, Msida St. Joseph, Pembroke Athleta, Qrendi, San Gwann, Victoria Hotspurs and Xghajra in the Round of 16 of the BOV Amateur Cup as they registered wins in the last four matches from the Round of 32 on Monday.
At the Centenary Stadium, Gharghur defeated Zebbug Rovers 1-0 thanks to Jake Sciberras on 16 minutes. In the Round of 16, they would be facing Pembroke Athlete.
Senglea Athletic beat Kalkara United 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Timothy Thomas put Senglea ahead on 37 minutes. Keith Muscat doubled the score on 81 minutes and Joseph Willy added another two minutes later.
In the Round of 16, Senglea will be facing Mqabba.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Qormi defeated Mellieha 4-2 after extra-time. Alex Sander put Mellieha ahead on 9 minutes but Dale Mifsud equalised on 18 minutes and Dion Fava made it 2-1 for Qormi on 45 minutes. Craig Cilia levelled matters on 51 minutes to force extra-time. Two minutes in the first half of extra-time Jayden Zac Borg restored the lead for Qormi and with four minutes to go, Ayrton Azzopardi sealed the issue with a fourth goal.
Qormi will be meeting Dingli Swallows in the next round.
At the Sirens Stadium, Ta’ Xbiex eliminated Zejtun Corinthians 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw. Johan Grech handed Ta’ Xbiex the lead on 15 minutes but Clyde Bouvet equalised on 40 minutes and just before the end of the first half, Matthew Farrugia made it 2-1 for Zejtun. However, Johan Grech scored again for Ta’ Xbiex on 78 minutes. No goals were scored in extra-time and the penalty shootout had to determine the winner.
In the penalty shootout, Nick Borg, Nicholas Zammit, Simone Crisafulli and Jake Davies scored for Ta’ Xbiex while Adrian Bonavia and Randon Caruana scored for Zejtun. Stefi Cale and Christopher Junior Buttigieg missed the first two penalties for the Corinthians.
In the Round of 16, Ta’ Xbiex will be facing neighbours Msida St. Joseph.
