Malta FA Jubilee Cup: Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Melita qualify for Round of 32

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Melita made it to the Round of 32 of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup after registering wins in two matches from the Preliminary Round on Wednesday.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s found no difficulty in beating Malta Veterans 8-1. David Oliveira put the Saints ahead on 8 minutes and doubled the score on 18 minutes. Alex Bruno made it 3-0 on 28 minutes and David Oliveira added another seven minutes from the end of the first half. One minute in the second half, Oliveira increased the lead and although Adam Smeir pulled one back for Malta Veterans, Birzebbuga scored another three goals thanks to Paul Lapira on 65 minutes, Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman on 66 minutes and Jacob Walker on 84 minutes. 

In the Round of 32, Birzebbuga will be facing Floriana.

On the other hand, Melita defeated Marsa 3-1 in the penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Atem Dor Jok put Marsa ahead on 22 minutes but two minutes in the second half, Jesus Yepez equalised for Melita. Eric Mensah put Melita ahead on 66 minutes but Marsa turned the score in their favour with goals by Dor Jok on 74 minutes and David Machardo Versiani on 81 minutes. Kurt Bondin restored equilibrium on 93 minutes. 

Melita face Valletta in the Round of 32.
