Malta made it back-to-back wins in the UEFA U15 Development Tournament, securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Liechtenstein on Thursday.
Malta started in a similar manner to how they started the encounter against San Marino, looking bright on the ball.
Malta struggled to carve many opportunities in the early stages, with Liechtenstein denying the home side any space in between the midfield and defence. In the 30th minute, Declan Roosevelt Zammit turned quickly on the edge of the penalty area, before hitting a strike that was easily saved by Kenny Messeiller.
Malta were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute after a very quick turn from Enzo De Freitas Romao, who was then brought down in the penalty area. He stepped up to take the spot-kick, and he finished it excellently in the top corner to open the scoring for Malta.
As a result, the two sides went into the break with the score 1-0 to Malta.
Malta remained a threat in the second-half, and Giuseppe Melarosa was picking up a number of good pockets in midfield. In the 55th minute, Malta doubled their lead, as Melarosa made a darting run through midfield before finding Romao, who swung a ball towards Jake Joseph Camilleri, and after his effort was saved, Zammit popped up to slot in the rebound.
Zammit could have quickly added to his tally in the 63rd minute, after he cut inside from the right, hitting a left-footed shot that was saved by Messeiller.
Malta continued to press in search of a third goal, being very adventurous in their play, pinning Liechtenstein back.
Malta restrict Liechtenstein’s attacks during the remaining few minutes, before seeing out the 2-0 win.
The team’s final match of the UEFA U15 Development Tournament will be on Sunday 5th October 2025, when they take on Andorra, with kick-off at 10:00hrs.
