Birzebbuga St. Peter’s moved top in the BOV Challenge League as they came from behind to beat Gudja United 2-1 in one of three matches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Jamie Carbone put Gudja ahead on 17 minutes but Alex Bruno equalised six minutes later and Paul Lapira notched the winner on the hour.
Mgarr United beat Marsa 3-2. Davi Machado put Marsa ahead on 3 minutes but Ivin Farrugia turned the score in favour of Mgarr with goals on 38 and 52 minutes. Dor Joe levelled matters on 56 minutes but three minutes in added time, Terence Vella made it 3-2 for Shaun Bajada’s side.
Emmanuel Asante notched a hat-trick in a 3-1 win for Swieqi United over Santa Lucia. Asante scored on 2, 30 and 49 minutes with Matthias Vella reducing the gap on 70 minutes.
Birzebbuga lead the way with 15 points, followed by Melita, Balzan, Pieta’, Mgarr and Swieqi on 13, Fgura 12, Sirens and St. Andrews 10, Santa Lucia 8, Gudja 7, Vittoriosa and Zurrieq 6, Marsa 3, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6.
