Mġarr United Women pull ahead in championship battle

Mġarr United strengthened their grip on the women’s league title race as the 2025 calendar year came to a close, with decisive results across this matchday shaping the standings.

In fact, Mġarr United ended their 2025 commitments with an eight-point lead at the top of the standings after a 2–0 victory over Swieqi United.

The Greens are now strong favourites to claim their maiden women’s league title, although ten matches remain in the campaign. Mġarr are still due to face second-placed Hibernians twice, meaning that avoiding defeat in those encounters would keep them firmly in control of the title race.

Swieqi, meanwhile, slipped to third place and now trail Mgarr by nine points, with their hopes of retaining the crown becoming increasingly slim.

Josline N’Guessan and Valeria Villegas were on target for the Greens.
