Melita moved second in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated leaders Balzan 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Jesus Yepez put Melita ahead on 12 minutes and doubled the score thanks to a penalty on 75 minutes.
A brace by Kian Leonardi – a goal on the 20th and a penalty just before the end of the first half – handed Swieqi United a 2-0 win over Gudja United in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
At the Centenary Stadium, Pieta’ Hotspurs beat Mtarfa 6-0 thanks to goals by Arthur Stelmach on 17, 34 and 73 minutes – the third being a penalty, Jeremy Micallef on 45 minutes, James Brincat on 47 minutes and Jake Borg on 76 minutes.
On the other hand, Vittoriosa Stars were held in a 1-1 draw by Marsa. Gabriel Cruz put Marsa ahead on 4 minutes but Renan Sgaria Farias converted a penalty on 13 minutes to level matters.
Balzan lead the way with 32 points, followed by Melita on 29, Birzebbuga 28, Sirens and Swieqi 26, Fgura 25, Mgarr, Pieta and Gudja 21, St. Andrews 20, Santa Lucia 18, Zurrieq 14, Vittoriosa 12, Marsa and Zebbug 8 and Mtarfa -2.
