Zabbar St. Patrick have appointed Gilbert Agius as their new senior team head coach. He replaces Aniello Parisi with whom the club mutually agreed to terminate the contract.
Parisi had joined the Saints in October 2024, helping the club to retain their Premier status at the end of last season. However, this season, they finished joint-third in the YoHealth Malta Premier Bottom 6 with two wins and four draws from eleven matches but they are still chasing their first points after five matches in the Closing Round.
A product of Valletta FC, Gilbert Agius has served as assistant coach of Valletta between 2012 and 2014 under Mark Miller and Andre Paus before being appointed as coach in the beginning of season 2014/15. He stepped down from the role in October and then acted as assistant coach with Ivan Zammit, Paul Zammit, Zoran Popovic and Danilo Doncic until April 2019 when he replaced Danilo Doncic in the final part of the season. During season 2019/20, he served as assistant coach with Darren Abdilla and Giovanni Tedesco and this season with Jesmond Zerafa. In December 2020, he took over as interim coach of Valletta before the club appointed Antonio Jose Cardoso Mendes as the new coach.
Agius took over as Malta Under-21 coach in January 2021 but stepped down in February 2023 to join PSIS Semarang in Indonesia. He returned to Malta last April.
