Naxxar Lions and Birkirkara shared the spoils in a goalless draw in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
With two match days to go for the end of the league phase, Naxxar Lions join Gzira United in fourth place on 14 points, one ahead of Valletta and Sliema Wanderers and two ahead of Birkirkara. For the Lions, this was the fourth consecutive positive result while for the Stripes, this was the third draw in four matches.
The two teams shared the exchanges throughout the ninety minutes with Donovan Makoma testing Matthias Debono early in the game and Miguel Angel Martinez neutralising a Vinicius Baiano effort towards the end of the first half. Early in the second half, Debono blocked a Manuel Morello effort with Macula’s attempt off the rebound cleared off the goal line by JP Iseppe. In added time, Martinez came to the rescue blocking attempts by Gabriel Costa and Louis Pahama.
