Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday. A draw which leaves Birzebbuga two points ahead of Swieqi.
Samson Chibuike Charles put Birzebbuga ahead on 18 minutes and Duvan Mosquera doubled the score seven minutes later. Kian Leonardi reduced the gap on 33 minutes and four minutes from time, Leonardi converted a penalty to level matters.
Melita, on the other hand, lost 0-1 to Pieta’ Hotspurs at the Centenaru Stadium. James Brincat scored the all-important goal on 58 minutes.
Balzan and Birzebbuga lead the way with 38 points, followed by Swieqi on 36, Melita 35, Sirens 32, Fgura 28, Pieta’ 27 and St. Andrews 26.
In the Bottom 6, Cristhyan scored twice on 65 and 95 minutes to hand Mgarr United a 2-0 in over Zebbug Rangers at the Centenary Stadium.
Marsa earned a point in a 3-3 draw with Gudja United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. An own goal put Marsa ahead on 19 minutes but Shola Shodija equalised when he converted a penalty on 26 minutes. Neil Demanuele restored the lead for Marsa on 35 minutes but Shodija levelled matters two minutes from the end of the first half. Irvin Abela put Marsa ahead for a third time on 78 minutes but Joseph Chilaka Agbakwuru restored equilibrium two minutes from time.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars and Santa Lucia shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Jean Carlos put Santa Lucia ahead on 84 minutes but Ayobami Julius Babatola equalised two minutes in added time.
Mgarr United lead the way with 31 points, followed by Santa Lucia and Gudja on 23, Zurrieq 20, Vittoriosa 17, Zebbug 12, Marsa 10 and Mtarfa -2. Mtarfa were relegated to the National Amateur League I.
