Three points separate the top four teams in the BOV Challenge League following Saturday’s matches.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Swieqi United defeated leaders Balzan 2-1. Isaac Davey put Swieqi ahead on 33 minutes. Samir Arab levelled matters on 71 minutes but Zak Barbara converted a penalty five minutes from time to hand Swieqi the three points.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s rescued a point in a 2-2 draw with Pieta’ Hotspurs in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium Samson Chibuike Charles put Birzebbuga ahead on 37 minutes but an own goal levelled matters on 58 minutes. Five minutes later, Shaun Xiberras put the Hotspurs ahead but Charles equalised on 74 minutes.
At the Centenary Stadium, a brace by Kevin Moreno on 28 and 45 minutes and a goal by Kurt Bondin four minutes in the second half handed Melita a 3-0 win over neighbours St. Andrews while in a match from the Bottom 6, a goal by Neil Demanuele five minutes from the end of the first half handed Marsa a narrow win over Santa Lucia.
In the Top 8, Balzan lead the way with 41 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Swieqi on 39, Melita 38, Sirens 32, Fgura and Pieta’ 28 and St. Andrews 26.
In the Play-Out, Mgarr lead with 31 points, followed by Santa Lucia and Gudja on 23, Zurrieq 20, Vittoriosa 17, Marsa 13, Zebbug 12 and Mtarfa -2.
