Valletta missed the opportunity to move second as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Naxxar Lions in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round Top 6 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens now lie one point behind Hamrun Spartans and Marsaxlokk although the Southseasiders have a game against Floriana in hand.
Naxxar, on the other hand, earn their first point in the Top 6 and now lie one point behind Gzira United, two behind Valletta and three behind Hamrun and Marsaxlokk.
Diogo Tavares put Valletta ahead on 24 minutes. However the Citizens received a major setback as Thaylor was sent off on 63 minutes.
Neil Pace Cocks notched the equaliser on 90 minutes.
